Somerset Heritage Service has launched a project to mark the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of the First World War, following a grant of £66,500 from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF).

The ‘Somerset Remembers’ project will explore the impact and long-term effect of the conflict on the county, and look at the many ways in Somerset people, their families and communities have remembered the Great War.

It will pay tribute to the sacrifice and contribution made by Somerset people both during and after WW1, and provide people today with opportunities to learn about the impact of the war on the county.

Here you can find out how the First World War impacted on Somerset, keep up to date with exciting discoveries, learn how to get involved and see what events are happening to commemorate this poignant moment in national history.
