Watchet Remembrance Project

There are many other remembrance projects taking place across Somerset.

The Watchet Remembrance Project Group, comprised of ex-servicemen, residents and town councillors, plan to create a new war memorial in the town to honour the bravery and courage of all their soldiers.

After raising £18,000 towards the project, the memorial was designed in collaboration with local schoolchildren.

A historic corner has been chosen alongside the library in Harbour Road, Watchet to place the memorial. This would have been the last parting view of Watchet seen by the brave soldiers as they were shipped out by train, some to their final destination.

The unveiling ceremony will take place on 28 June 2014; the day Franz Ferdinand was assassinated.
